An intellectually engaged and heart-centered language educator for learners of all ages, I work with my students to weave a web of connections, bringing language, culture, story, and learning to life.

In addition to being an independent teacher of French and a teacher coach and trainer in the Washington, DC area, I present workshops at conferences around the country on teaching languages using comprehensible input and creating diversity-positive, anti-bias classrooms (with my colleague Rachelle Adams of Elevate Education Consulting). I am also engaged in teacher training work internationally, most notably with the Aumazo program in Bankondji, Cameroon. I have been a presenter and on the coaching team for the National TPR Storytelling conference since 2016, and I have been a College Board AP Reader since 2014. My AP French syllabus was published by Vista Publishing as a sample syllabus for the Thèmes textbook in January 2016 (click here to visit page).

I am also a certified InterPlay leader (www.interplay.org), a dedicated practitioner of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), a licensed lay preacher in the Episcopal Church, a committed yogi, and a graduate of the Shalem Spiritual Guidance Program.

I speak German and Spanish in addition to French.

​Here is some information about my background:
After teaching at both Duke University and the University of Maryland, I found a particular calling as a middle and high school French teacher at Barrie School, an independent Pre-Kー12 school in Silver Spring, Maryland, where I also served as World Language Department Chair. Under my leadership, the Barrie World Language Department underwent a complete transformation: I worked with the department to adopt a common methodology based on optimized immersion and comprehensible input (TPRSーTotal Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), introduced AP French and AP Spanish Language and Culture courses, co-authored a vertically integrated curriculum based on comprehensible-input principles and the six AP World Language themes, launched a teacher-coaching program within the department, and created two official partnerships with French-language organizations (Aumazo, Inc., which is building a school in rural Cameroon; and the Lycée de Bellevue in Fort de France, Martinique).
